I was pleased to send off a book to Barbara Smith today to Newark, New York.  She attended a one-room schoolhouse for first grade because the school bus would not pick her up as there were not two families with school-age children on their road.  Her Aunt Eloise taught grades 1-8 in different one-room school houses, and both of her parents attended one-room school houses as well.
